4、e disc clutches.1. IntroductionCO2 emissions reduction through enhanced fuel economy and clean exhaust emissions are important development themes in the automobile industry. A dual benefit to the environment is achieved
5、by alleviating global warming and also by preventing pollution.A hybrid system that incorporates an electric motor is an effective means of improving fuel economy. Espe- cially, mini-vans with large and heavy bodies typi
6、cally have lower fuel economies than passenger cars. Thus the merits of developing a hybrid type mini-van are substantial. Toyota’s THS-C (Fig. 1) is the most favorable hybrid system for mini-vans [1].Fig. 1. Configurati
7、on of THS-C and THSThe THS-C hybrid system has the following features:*A reduced dependency on electric motor power (Table 1) yields further compactness and lower cost.*A torque increase mechanism with CVT, and control o
8、f the drive power source, enhance driving performance.*A 4WD system, most desired for mini-vans, has been adopted. An electric 4WD system exhibits improved fuel economy in four-wheel regeneration and ordin- ary FWD opera
9、tion.To achieve them we designed and developed a new transaxle for the front drive unit of THS-C system.Table 1.Specification of THS-C and THSinputs are installed, through the planetary gears, onto the input shaft that i
10、s connected to the primary pulley of the CVT.Engine torque is input to the planetary gears via the torsional damper. Motor torque is input directly into the planetary gears to control drive power switching via the wet mu
11、ltiple-disc clutch.In the ratio shift section the Super CVT’s mechanism is applied. It is noted for its high efficiency and smooth speed changing. Steel push belts are used to provide a wide range shift ratio (Table 2).T
