5、 the Standard are mandatory, others are recommended.</p><p>  The standard corresponds to FMVSS 571.302 Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Regulations

6、. Its consistency with FMVSS 571.302 Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials is non-equivalent.</p><p>  The standard substitutes GB 8410-1994 Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials</p>&

7、lt;p>  Compared to GB 8410-1994, major changes of the standard are as follows:</p><p>  -- Chapter 1 Automotive Classification Method is modified according to requirements of GB 3730.1—2001; </p>&

8、lt;p>  -- Compiling means of Terminology Part in Chapter 2 is modified and added with English content according to requirements of GB/T 1.1—2000;</p><p>  -- Definition of composite material is modified;

9、please refer to Item 2.2;</p><p>  -- Definition of interior material is improved; its definition scope is broadened; please refer to Item 2.5;</p><p>  --Technical requirements of Chapter 3 are

10、 modified; Item 3.1 and Item 3.3 in the original standard technical requirements are cancelled and relevant contents are included in Item 4.6;</p><p>  -- Requirements of heat source for test are modified; p

18、-2006</p><p>  Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials</p><p><b>  scope </b></p><p>  The standard defines the technical requirements and test methods of horizont

19、al flammability of automotive interior material.</p><p>  The standard is applicable to the assessment of horizontal flammability of automotive interior material.</p><p>  Since there are many d

20、ifferences between the actual conditions of various automotive interior materials (spare parts position, layout, use condition, ignition source, etc) and the test conditions stipulated in the standard, the standard is no

21、t applicable to assess all the real interior flammability of automotive interior materials. </p><p>  2. Terminology and definition</p><p>  2.1 burning rate</p><p>  According to t

22、he standard, unit of ratio between burning distance and time used to burn such distance is mm/min.</p><p>  2.2 composite material</p><p>  Surfaces of layers of similar or different materials a

23、re tightly connected by different methods like heat sealing, splicing and welding to form a composite material.</p><p>  2.3 exclusive material</p><p>  An overall even material consists of the

24、same kind of material.</p><p>  If different materials are intermittently connected together (like sewing, radio-frequency welding, riveting), the formed material should not be regarded as composite material

25、; each material should be deemed as an exclusive material.</p><p>  2.4 exposed side</p><p>  The spare parts should be assembled towards the crew within the automobile.</p><p>  2.

26、5 interior materials</p><p>  The exclusive materials or composite materials used by automotive interior spare parts include: seating washer, seat backrest, seat-cover, seat belt, headrest, hand rest, mobile

27、 folding top, all decorative lining board (including lining board within the door, side lining board, rear lining board, lining board of the ceiling), meter panel, sundries box, indoor shelf board or rear window board, c

28、urtain, floor covering layer, sun shield, wheel casing cover, engine hood cover and any other indoor or</p><p>  Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials</p><p><b>  1 scope </b>

29、;</p><p>  The standard defines the technical requirements and test methods of horizontal flammability of automotive interior material.</p><p>  The standard is applicable to the assessment of h

30、orizontal flammability of automotive interior material.</p><p>  Since there are many differences between the actual conditions of various automotive interior materials (spare parts position, layout, use con

31、dition, ignition source, etc) and the test conditions stipulated in the standard, the standard is not applicable to assess all the real interior flammability of automotive interior materials. </p><p>  2. Te

39、>  3 Technical requirements</p><p>  Flammability of automotive interior material must conform to following technical requirements:</p><p>  Burning rate should be no larger than 100mm/min.&l

40、t;/p><p>  4 Test method</p><p>  4.1 principle </p><p>  Retain the sample horizontally on the U shaped bracket; after igniting the free end of the sample with flame of a defined heig

41、ht in the combustion box, make sure if the flame on the sample went out or when it went out, as well as the burning distance and time used to burn such distance.</p><p>  GB 8410-2006</p><p>  4

42、.2.3 Gas lamp</p><p>  The gas lamp is a fire source for test use. Inner diameter of its nozzle is 9.5 mm; valve structure shall enable easy control and adjustment of flame height.</p><p>  When

43、 the gas lamp is put in the combustion box, the center of nozzle opening should be 19mm lower than the center of free end of the sample (refer to picture 2).</p><p>  4.2.4 Fuel gas</p><p>  To

44、guarantee the comparability of test results, the fuel gas used for gas lamp should preferably choose liquid gas; other flammable gases with thermal value after combustion of 35 MJ/m3 to 38 MJ/ m3 can also be adopted, lik

45、e natural gas and city gas, etc.</p><p>  Liquid gas is recommended for referee test.</p><p>  4.2.5 Metal comb </p><p>  Length of the metal comb should be at least 110mm, with 7 t

46、o 8 smooth rounded teeth within every 25mm.</p><p>  4.2.6 Stopwatch</p><p>  Accuracy of the stopwatch for measuring time should not be lower than 0.5s.</p><p>  4.2.7 Thermometer&

52、;  GB 8410-2006</p><p>  4.2.8 Steel ruler</p><p>  Measuring range of the steel ruler should be above 400mm; accuracy should be 1mm.</p><p>  4.2.9 Ventilating cabinet</p>&

53、lt;p>  The combustion box should be placed in the ventilating cabinet; inner volume of the ventilating cabinet should be 20 to 110 times that of the combustion box; size of length, width and height of the ventilating

54、cabinet should not in excess of 2.5 times that of the other two. </p><p>  At the position before and after 100mm of the finally confirmed position of the combustion box, measure the vertical speed of air fl

55、owing through the ventilating cabinet, which should be 0.10m/s to 0.30 m/s.</p><p>  4.3 Sample</p><p>  4.3.1 Shape and dimension</p><p>  For shape and dimension of the standard s

56、ample, please refer to picture 6. Thickness of the sample equals to that of the spare parts, but should not be lower than 13mm.</p><p><b>  Unit: mm</b></p><p>  the second gage mark

58、ength, width, thickness). Generally, sampling should ensure that the same cross sections alongside the overall length of the samples are available.</p><p>  In case that shape and size of the spare parts are

59、 not sufficient to produce standard sample with defined size, following sample with minimum size should be guaranteed and record should be made:</p><p>  If width of the spare parts is between 3mm to 60mm, i

60、ts minimum length should be 356mm. Under this condition, width of the sample should approximate to that of the spare parts as far as possible.</p><p>  If width of the spare parts is above 60mm, its minimum

61、length should be 138mm. Under this condition, the possible burning distance should equal to the distance from the first gage mark to the point where the flame goes out, or from the first gage mark to the end of the sampl

62、e.</p><p>  If width of the spare parts is between 3mm to 60mm and its length is less than 356mm; or width of the spare parts is above 60mm and its length is less than 138mm, this standard will not be applic

63、able for test. Sample with a width of less than 3mm should not be tested according to the standard, either.</p><p>  4.3.2 Sampling </p><p>  Sample at least 5 pieces from the tested spare parts

64、. For materials with different burning speed alongside different distances, sampling should be carried out at different distances, and five or more pieces of the samples should be tested in the combustion box respectivel

65、y. Sampling methods are as follows:</p><p>  When the material is supplied as whole width, sample should be with full width and 500mm in length at least. Cut the materials 100mm away the edge. Then sample ev

66、enly with equidistant spaces on the rest part.</p><p>  If shape and size of the spare parts conform to the sampling requirements, samples should be cut off from the spare parts.</p><p>  If sha

67、pe and size of the spare parts doesn’t conform to the sampling requirements and this standard must be applied, standard samples with the same material, the same manufacturing process, the same structure with the spare pa

68、rts can be used for test (356mm*100mm); the thickness should be the minimum thickness of the spare parts, and should not be larger than 13mm. Such test results cannot be used for identification and certification, sample

69、preparation details must be indicated in the test repo</p><p>  If thickness of the spare parts is larger than 13mm, mechanically cut off the samples from the non-exposed face to ensure that sample thickness

70、 including the exposed face equals to 13mm.</p><p>  In case of uneven thickness of the spare parts, mechanically cut off the samples from the non-exposed face to ensure that the spare parts thickness is con

71、sistent with the minimum thickness.</p><p>  In case that even sample is not available due to winding spare parts, choose the parts as even as possible and arch rise of the sample should not be larger than 1

72、3mm; otherwise, standard samples with the same material, the same manufacturing process, the same structure with the spare parts can be used for test (356mm*100mm); thickness should be the minimum thickness of the spare

73、parts, and should not be above 13mm. </p><p>  Test the composite material as the exclusive material, with the same sampling method as above.</p><p>  If the material consists of several layers,

74、 but not belongs to composite material, respective single layer of material should be sampled and tested, within 13mm in thickness from the exposed face. Please refer to picture 7 for sampling demonstration.</p>&

77、terface between material A and material B is not pasted, material A should be individually tested. Material B is within 13mm in thickness and tightly connected with Material C, hence, Material B and C should be composite

78、 material, cut off 13mm from it for test.</p><p>  4.3.3 Pretreatment</p><p>  Before test, the sample should be kept under the standard condition of 23°C +/- 2°C and relative humidity

79、 of 45% to 55%, at least for 24 h, but should not be more than 168h.</p><p>  4.4.4 Test procedure </p><p>  4.4.1 Take out the pre-treated sample; put the samples with surface fuzzing or tuftin

80、g onto a leveling table; hackle twice the fuzzing surface in a reverse direction with the fuzz with the metal comb as specified in Item 4.2.5.</p><p>  4.4.2 Ignite the gas lamp when the air entry of the lam

81、p is close. Adjust the flame height according to the flame height mark plate to 38mm. Before the first test, the flame should be kept stably under such condition for at least 1 min, then go out.</p><p>  4.4

82、.3 Fit the sample into the bracket with its exposed face downward. Install the sample to get its two edges and one side retained by the U shaped bracket. Free end should align with the U shaped bracket opening. In case t

83、hat the U shaped bracket can not hold the sample due to insufficient width, or in case of unstable burning due to soft and flexible free end, put the sample onto the bracket with heat-resistant metal wire for burning tes

84、t.</p><p>  4.4.4 Push the test bracket into the combustion box with the sample lying horizontally in the center of the combustion box. Ignite the gas lamp when the air entry of the lamp is close and keep th

85、e flame height as 38mm. inflame the free end for 15s and then extinguish the flame (close the gas lamp valve).</p><p>  4.4.5 Flame burns from the free end of the sample forward. Measure time instantaneous l

86、y since root of the propagating flame passes the first gage mark. Pay attention to the propagating situation of the flame at the face with faster burning rate. Timing should be based on the face with faster flame propaga

87、ting speed.</p><p>  4.4.6 When the flame arrives at the second gage mark or it goes out before arriving at the second gage mark, stop timing, Timing should also be based on the face with faster flame propag

88、ating speed. If the flame goes out before arriving at the second gage mark, measure the burning distance from the first gage mark to the point where the flame goes out. Burning distance refers to the length of the burned

89、 sample surface or burned interior of the sample.</p><p>  4.4.7 If the non-exposed face of the sample has been cut off, timing should be based on the flame propagating speed at the exposed face.</p>

90、<p>  4.4.8 Requirements of the burning rate does not applicable to the surface formed by the cutting sample.</p><p>  4.4.9 If the sample keeps slow combustion for a long time since the timing starts,

91、stop testing when the timing reaches 20 min and record the burning time and burning distance. </p><p>  4.4.10 In case of serial tests or repeated tests, the maximum temperature of the combustion box and tes

92、ting bracket before next test should not in excess of 30°C. </p><p>  GB 8410-2006</p><p>  4.5 Calculation </p><p>  Burning rate (V) should be calculated by following formula

94、istance L, unit is s</p><p>  Test result of burning speed should be the maximum measured value of the burning speed of five or more pieces of samples.</p><p>  4.6 Result indication</p>

95、<p>  4.6.1 If the sample is exposed to flame for 15s and still not burned; or the sample is burned, but flame goes out before it arriving at the first gage mark, there is no burning distance to measure. It should b

96、e deemed as conformity to the requirements of burning rate. Result should be recorded as A-0 mm/min.</p><p>  4.6.2 If the flame goes out itself within 60s since timing, and the burning distance is less than

97、 50mm, it shall be deemed as conformity to the requirements of burning rate. Result should be recorded as A.</p><p>  4.6.3 If the flame goes out between two gage marks since timing, it should be deemed as s

98、elf-extinguishing sample and non-conformity to the requirements in Item 4.6.2; burning rate should be calculated according to the requirements in Item 4.5; the result should be recorded as C-actual value of burning rate

99、(mm/min).</p><p>  4.6.4 If the flame arrives at the second gage mark since timing or situation mentioned in Item 4.49 happens (stop testing initiatively), burning rate should be calculated according to the

100、requirements in Item 4.5; the result should be recorded as D-actual value of burning rate (mm/min).</p><p>  4.6.5 If the sample is burned within 15s after inflaming and the flame arrives at the first gage m

101、ark, the sample should be deemed as nonconformity to the requirements of burning rate, recorded as E.</p><p>  5 Test report</p><p>  Test report should include following contents:</p>&l

102、t;p>  material type, spare parts name, source, test date and tester;</p><p>  sample color and number;</p><p>  material composition</p><p>  sample size, thickness of respective

103、 layer of the composite material, direction of the sample in the product;</p><p>  sample quantity</p><p>  test result: whether burning distance, burning time, burning rate and flammability con
