3、sthusbestoweduponitanamethatshinesinthehistybooksoftheChineserevolutionsettingupahisticalmonumentwitheternalgly.In1991ZhuMuzhiwhowasMinisteroftheInfmationOfficeoftheStateCouncilthenwrotethisinionfXibaipo:“ThedestinyofChi

4、nawasdeterminedinthisvillage.“HisinionspeakshighlyofXibaiposhisticalstatusinChina’srevolution.“NewChinasetofffromhere“isafamouscommentattributedtothewriterYanTaowhenhewrotealiteraryreptonXibaipoentitled“NotesontheRoadtot

5、heEast.“ThiscommentwasalsousedasasubtitlefthedocumentisnowwidelyquotedasthebestsynopsisofXibaiposhisticcontribution.XibaipowasedtobethecommcenterfboththeliberatingofChinatheplanningofNewChinafvariousreasons.Notonlydidits

6、uniquegeographiclocationnaturalsurroundingsbestsuitthispurposeXibaipoalsohaddevelopedintoastrongrevolutionarybaseovertheyearstherefestoodoutfitspoliticalpreeminence.XibaipoisasmallvillagelocatedonthenthernbanksoftheHutuo

7、RiverrunningthroughtheJiximountainousregion.Notonlydoesithavebeautifulscenerybutalsorichfertilesoil.ThevillageislocatedinthedleofPingshancountyatthecrossroadsbetweentheNthChinaPlateauTaihangMountain.Poisedinahsefootshape

8、dvalleyientedtowardthesunXibaipoissurroundedbymountainsonitsthreesidesbywaterononeside.ToitswestitembracesthegatewaytoTaihangMountaintoitseastitbderstheJizhongPlateau.Thevillageisonly90kmfromShijiazhuangastrategicallyimp

9、tantcityintheNthChinaregion.Xibaipoenjoysconvenienttransptationfacilitiesisdistinguishedasamilitarylocationofstrategicimptance.Occupyingthislocationprovidesfflexibilityineitherwithdrawingintothemountainsatatimeofemergenc

10、yfadvancingintocitieswhennecessary.RevolutionaryactivitystartedearlyinPingshancounty.DuringtheperiodoftheGreatRevolutioninthe1920sthePartysetupitsownganizationhere.By1946therewere608branchofficesthenumberofPartymembersha

11、dincreasedto19535fromjust30membersin1931.Thepartygainedpopularsupptatthegrassrootslevel.AftertheWaragainsttheJapaneseInvasionPingshancountywassurroundedbytworevolutionarybasesi.e.ShanxiChaha’erHebeiShanxiHebeiShongHe’nan

12、locatedherewerethecommpostsofthe4thaswellasthe2ndmilitarysubareaswithintheShanxiChaha’erHebeiregion.TheheadquartersofthePartysNthernBureautheShanxiChaha’erHebeiRegionalGovernmenttheShanxiChaha’erHebeiMilitaryRegionwereal

13、solocatedinPingshancountyfthreehalfyears.simultaneouslydisged.BecauseMaoTsetungwaspreparingfnegotiationstobeheldintheUSSRatthetimeheremainedinFupingawhilearrivedinXibaipoonMay26th.BythentheCentralCommitteesfiveSecretaryG

14、eneralshadfinallyreunitedinXibaipoafteroneyearofseparation.ThereunionmarkedthesuccessfulcompletionofthestrategicrelocationganizedbytheCentralCommittee.NowXibaipobecametheleadershipnucleusftheChineserevolution.OnMarch2319

15、49theheadquartersofthePartysCentralCommitteetheMilitaryCentralCommitteetheChinesePeoplesLiberationArmysetofffromXibaipoadvancedtowardsBeiping.PritodepartureMaoTsetungcollectedallcadressecuritypersonnelwithintheCentralCom

16、mitteeremindedthem:“WeareabouttoenterBeiping.OurentryintothiscityshouldbedifferentfromthatofLiZicheng.TheybecamecruptedinBeijing.WeCommunistswillcontinueourrevolutionaryactivitiesconstructsocialismuntiltherealizationofco

17、mmunism.“ThePartysCentralCommitteethoughonlyresidinginXibaipoftenmonthshadinscribedaremarkablechapterinChinasrevolutionaryhistybooks.ThisperiodoftimesawthesunriseofanewChina.JustlikeJingGangshanRuijinYan’anXibaipobecameo

18、neofthereveredsitesoftheChineserevolution.OnFebruary261973ChouEnlaiwroteainionfXibaipo:“XibaipoisthelastruralcommcenterbefeChairmanMaothePartysCentralCommitteeenteredBeipingliberatingChina.ItwasinXibaipothattheCentralCom

19、mitteecommedtheThreeMajCampaignsconvenedthe2ndPlenarySessionofthe7thCentralCommittee”In1956theHubeiprovincialgovernmentdesignatedtheiginalsiteoftheCentralCommitteeasahisticalartifactspreservationunit.Duetotheconstruction

20、oftheHangnanDamin1958theiginalsitewasfloodedremovedtoahillsidetothenthofthevillage.ThecurrentlyrestedbuildingswereinthecentralcourtyardlocatedtotheeastofXibaipooccupyinganareaof16440sqm.Therestedbuildings’iginalappearanc

21、ehasbeenbasicallypreserved.WhentheWkingCommitteestartedrelocatingtoXibaipotherewerenosurroundingwalls.WhenthePartysCentralCommitteemovedin2mhighearthenwallswerebuiltbehindtheresidencesofMaoTsetungLiuShaochiChouEnlaiRenBi

22、shiduetosecurityconsiderations.Inadditionairraidshelterswerebuiltonthehillsidebehindtheirhouses.UponentryintotheareaoftheXibaipoMemialMuseumyouwillseeagrXibaipoMemialMonumentstingastlushgreencypresspinetrees.Thenameofthe
