4、erine Mansfield was always honored as the pioneer for short story writing, especially for heroines, which reflected a unique consideration on woman’s destiny. This paper mainly focuses on the theme of self recognition by

5、 analyzing the relationship between their living situation and self recognition. This paper also gives a closer analysis of the concept with contemporary feminist theories. And it can be observed that the most significan

6、t contexts of them are profession, love and family. So the self recognition of a female is recognized by different social factors and bears obscure cultural normality. In other words, it has not been so accurate on the u

7、nderstanding of prevailing essentialism of women’s identities. Accordingly, in the male-dominated society, although the seeking for their own identity must be a tough practice, Mansfield’s works just meet this criterion

8、on this subject. This paper consists of four parts: the abstract gives an outline of the writer’s life, the critical studies and the aim of the study. The first chapter mainly focuses on the heroines including the inexp

9、erienced girls, the lonely aged women and the ones who are regarded as the reflective mirror by their stress and disillusion from the professional aspect. By the above-mentioned analysis, the author claims that women’s s

10、elf-development in this world must be on their own efforts but not on male’s authorities. The second chapter, intends to analyse the female’s self-awareness under the expectations, failures and satire in the course of th

11、eir loving affairs. Owing to the ups and downs of the characters’ psychological activities, the themes of love tragedies come into effect. The third chapter deals with the relationship between the family and the female e

12、ducation. Thanks to the author’s conscientious consideration, not only the children and the grown-ups, but also the subversive ones and the explorers, all reveal the subtle relationships between two genders. Through the
