3、the original relay wiring was replaced by the program, and the hardware and software resources of PLC were used reasonably. The normally running and emergency transport were introduced in detail, and that the emergencies

4、 from the east-west and from the south-north can interlock. The traffic lights signal system was displayed with two seven-segment digital tubes in countdown order; meanwhile the wiring of hardware and PLC ladder diagram

5、was discussed in details. The remotemonitoring system of traffic lights at the crossroads was designed with configuration software MCGS, which monitored traffic lights in real-time and improved the reliability greatly. A

8、on when urgency events occurred. Under this condition, the urgency vehicle was prior to pass. Once the urgency vehicles have passed by, the urgency switch turned off immediately. Then the green light at the same directio

9、n of the urgency vehicle flashed three times, which subsequently ran normally. If there are two urgencies vehicles from South-North and East-Westrespectively, the urgency traffic controlling system can only respond the o

11、ffic becomes more and more important. On one hand, too many crossroads, increasingly vehicles, all which cause serious traffic jam. On the other hand, it’s necessary to keep fast and safe for the vehicular and the pedest

12、rian in the limited time[1,2]. Therefore, a kind of traffic lights controlling system was designed, which can be used to show time countdown, and control real-time data with Computer. In addition, configuration technique

13、s were applied to reflect the real-time images of traffic lights and understand the history of the work of the crossroad, and the visualization of the traffic lights can be obtained. This system consists of host computer

14、 and lower computer. MCGS was installed in host computer, and the lower computer was controlled by PLC system[3].The normally time-series diagram of the traffic lights[4] asshown by Fig 1. But there are some urgency, for

15、 example. There are some ambulances used to transport patients to hospital or some fire engines used to fight fires. Fire engines and ambulances have priority over other traffic. According to the city traffic control sys

17、9.176A. Design of hardware circuitThe CP1H series PLC was used as the controller, thedisplay program should stop when the system ran abnormal time series program, and the time won’t be displayed. When the urgency time se

18、ries program was finished, the countdown display program should be reset.In the system, 220V AC was used to control trafficlights and 24V DC to control seven-segment encoder, Fig 2 shows the scheme of East-West time disp

19、lay. The CP1H series PLC is a simple controller, which consists of twenty- four inputs and sixteen outputs. Because twenty outputs were needed in this system, one I/O module must be extended. The wiring diagram as shown

22、he trafficlights):Q0-Q5;Fourteen read-only channels (read the states of thedigital tube): Q6-Q12 Q13-Q19All the channels must be connected to the variablesdefined in the real-time database access one by one and other par

23、ameters with default value. After a successful connection between PLC and the computer, the controlling system was able to change the color of analog signal lights in the picture on the PC by the collected data through t

24、he serial port. Then the state monitor of the traffic light at the crossroad was performed. Instead, through changing the parameters of the host computer, the corresponding values written to PLC the internal relay, the c

25、ontrol of traffic lights at the junction can be carried out. The experimental results show that the system ran normally and animation was good enough. The on-line monitoring system of traffic lights as shown in Fig 5.BI.

26、 CONCLUSIONSThe experimental results indicated that the system ran normally and the configuration picture was good enough.Figure 5. Animation picture from MCGSThe system simplified the communication between PLC and Host

27、Computer by using industrial configuration software, which shortened the exploitation time greatly; especially, it is more fit for complex controlling system. We can control the traffic lights by PLC and MCGS instead of

28、the original relay control and increase life expectancy of this system. At the same time, the method can be applied to control motors and liquid levels. The remote-control and configuration simulation are put together an
