2、e IEEE802.11 Wireless Access Point Abstract Wireless access point is a core device of the wireless local area networks, which is conformed to IEEE802.11 protocol. With the rapid development of WLAN, AP has been widely us
3、ed. However, traditional AP usually has only one operating mode. This mode is called AP mode which only provide coverage of the wireless signal. The single-mode AP limited range of applications, to fit more network envir
4、onments, we need AP to have more operating modes. The AP the paper designed has AP mode which can achieve wireless coverage like traditional AP. In addition to, it also has Station mode and Sta-AP mode. In Station mode,
5、AP can be a user of the AP to connect other AP. In Sta-AP mode, AP can be a wireless repeater when it is located at a poor signal area. Firstly, the paper analyzes the IEEE802.11 protocol and proposes the overall design
6、of the AP. The software part of the AP contain wireless driver module, data forwarding module and configuration management module. The wireless driver module achieves the original AP mode and Station mode. It also achiev
7、e wireless repeater function of the Sta-AP mode by the combination of these two modes. In the data forwarding module, the paper proposes using MAC address mapping to translate the addess of the data frame to ensure data
8、frame in Station mode can be forwarded smoothly, and gives the implementation. Configuration management module designed a central configuration management process to complete the interaction with the WEB server, encrypti
9、on, authentication server and the wireless driver. Finally, the test results show that these three modes can meet most of the home and small office networks. Key words: WLAN, IEEE 802.11, Wireless Access Point, Multimode
