2、undoubtedly the most influential one with the greatest artistic achievements. When mentioned Tang, many people know “ The Peony Pavilion”rather than “The Dreams” . “ The Dreams”refer to Tang Xianzu

3、's Chuanqi dramas— “ Handan Dream”and “ Nanke Dream” , which were written after he retired and returned to his hometown in his old age. Once some people regarded it as a pity that Tang wro

4、te “ The Dreams”after he had accomplished “ The Peony Pavilion“, and even said that “ The Peony Pavilion“ was already enough for Tang to lay a high status in Chinese drama and literature. How

5、ever, that is not t rue. “ The Dreams”is the inheritance and development of “The Peony Pavilion“. Evaluating from the aspects of the language structure, the content and the thought, the realist

6、ic meaning and artistic achievements and so on, “ The Dreams”can be called two successful Chuanqi dramas. The thesis combines the social background with Tang's hard life experience in WanLi

7、era to study the creation, transmission, as well as artistic achievements of “ The Dreams”in order to get a more profound understanding of these two dramas. Four chapters constitute the thesis.

8、The first chapter is an overview of the social and historical background of “ The Dreams” , which mainly states the prosperity of Chuanqi dramas in WanLi era and briefly analyzes its reasons.

9、 It arrives at the conclusion that “The Dreams“ is the outcome of the intensified social contradictions and emergence of new ideas in WanLi era. The second chapter mainly analyzes “ The Dreams”

10、by involving Tang's life experience and is elaborated from the following three aspects: frustrating career experience and the plot of “ The Dreams” ; the intercourse with teachers and friends

11、 and the value orientation of “ The Dreams” ; the seclusion and accession to the world and the ideological tendency of “ The Dreams” . Generally speaking, Tang has integrated numerous personal exp

12、erience and individual life experience in the course of creating “The Dreams” . The third chapter dissertates chiefly from two aspects: one is to compare and analyze “ The Dreams“ with novels and dram
