6、timatelytheadvancementofthecommongood.Socialjusticeisanintegralfeatureofdemocraticlifeasdemocraticsocietiesareatleastintheidealjustsocieties.Theystrivefequityselfdeterminationfreedom.Theyeducatestudentstobecomejustcitize
7、nswhoareasWalterParkernotes‘‘principledcompassionatewhorefrainfromharmingexploitingotherswhobelieveitistheirdutybothtoprotectjustinstitutionstopreventinjustice.’Asignificanttraditionwithineducationaltheyfegroundstheconce
8、rnsofdemocracysocialjusticeinhowweconceptualizethepurposesgoalsofschooling.Weseethismalagencytotakeseriouslytheroleofschoolinginthecultivationofdemocracy.Mostrecentlycriticaleducatshaveturnedtheirattentiontochallengingth
9、enegativeeffectsofglobalizationparticularlyitsmanifestationinacelebrationofthe‘‘free’’markettheconcurrentexpansionofglobalcapitalism.Theywrythatmarketdrivenimperativesareincreasinglydirectingeducationaldecisionmakingthat
10、theneedsofindividualshavebeenovershadowedevensacrificedinanarrowmindedpursuitofeconomicprofits.CriticalpedagogyculturalstudiesantiglobalizationalongwithotherSimilarleftisteducationalmovementstraditionsshareabeliefthatiss
11、uesofeducationsocialjusticearefundamentallyrelated.Theyagreethatschoolsplayacrucialroleinhelpingusbothtoimaginethekindofsocietywewanttoliveintobringourvisionsintoexistence.Inmanywaystheyadoptasocialjusticeframewkinrelati
12、ontoeducation.JeannieOakesMartinLiptonofferthatasocialjusticeperspectivetowardeducationdoesthreethings.Firstitasksustouncoverexaminecritiquethevaluespoliticsthatundergirdeducationaldecisionspracticesevenaswealsoexplethem
