4、e focus of research on foreign/second language learning has shifted from “teacher” and “teaching” to “l(fā)earner” and “l(fā)earning”. Research of foreign language learner?s individual differences has become more and more popula

5、r. Beliefs of foreign language learning are important subsection of learners? individual differences. Learners? language learning belief directly influence the chose of actual language learning strategies and the whole p

6、rocess of language learning .Learners? language learning belief is a critical factor for successful foreign language learning. Therefore, it?s necessary to investigate the current situation of senior middle school studen

7、ts? beliefs on English learning. This will help learners to reflect and adjust their beliefs. In one word, this research is meaningful, both in the level of theory and in the level of practice. With the development of co

8、gnitive linguistic, meta-cognitive knowledge has become one of the focuses of the research fields. The questionnaire used in current study is mainly from the master degree thesis of Li Zhewei, who graduated from Shanghai

9、 Foreign Language University. After a pilot study, it? approved that the questionnaire is qualified for further study. The subjects of this thesis, who are randomly selected, are from four senior middle schools in Ganzho

10、u city (two ordinary schools and two academic key schools). The number of the subjects is 205. In this thesis, the overall situation of learners? beliefs and the belief difference between students from ordinary school an

11、d academic key school were also analyzed. A semi-structure interview to 16 subjects was also conducted later. At last, some implication has been given on the base of former investigation. The results shows that generally

12、 speaking, the subjects? beliefs are active and inclined to be open in the three aspects(beliefs on person, beliefs on task and beliefs on strategies). Some of the subjects? beliefs on English learning are positive. They
