4、ions.AllthetestedplantswereromlydividedintotwogroupsreferredascontrolgroupSO2exposedgroup.FSO2exposureplantswerefumigatedwith1.429mgm3SO2inaexposedchamberf8h(8:00–16:00)perdayf7days.TheconcentrationofSO2usedwasderivedfro

5、mrelatedliteratures.ChamberSO2concentrationwasmonitedduringtreatmentbymeasurementbypararosanilinehydrochlidespectrophotometry.Fthecontrolgroupfilteredairalonewassupplied.AttheendoftheSO2exposuredatawerecollectedonrelativ

6、ebiomassincreasephotosyntheticrateintercellularCO2concentrationstomatalconductanceenzymeactivitiesofsuperoxidedismutase(SOD)peroxidase(POD)catalase(CAT)inleavesmalondialdehyde(MDA)contentelectrolyteleakage.UnderSO2unstre

7、ssedconditions(coalfilteredair)relativebiomassincreaseinsnc1was58%whilethevaluevariedbetween76%82%inotherlinesindicatingthatthehighSAlevelinsnc1inhibitedplantgrowth.HoweverunderSO2exposurethevalueinrelativebiomassincreas

8、einsnc1plantsdecreasedonlyslightlycomparedtotheunstressedcontrolwhileadramaticreductionoccurredinotherlines.ExposuretoSO2inhibitedphotosyntheticrateofalltestedlineswithnahGnpr11snc1nahGplantsbeingmostseverewhilesnc1plant

9、sshowntheleastdifferencefromtheSO2unstressedcontrol.IntercellularCO2concentration(Ci)wasrelevanttothephotosyntheticrateinallthelines.SO2exposuresignificantlyreducedthestomatalconductanceofalllinesexceptthesnc1whereitwasa

10、ffectedonlyslightly.ExposuretoSO2suppressedSODactivityinalllinestestedwithnahGnpr11plantsbeingmostseverewhilesnc1plantsdecreasedslightly.PODactivitywasincreasedbySO2exposureinalllineswhilesnc1plantsaffectedsignificantly.
