2、er the superiority reflected in the 1860s or the aggressive and simple color as well as the general and rapid brush stroke in his works, are the clear evidences of his being the forerunner of modernism. Among Manet’s w
3、orks, a group of works reflecting vivid modernity in content and form were the works of cafes created in 1870s. Though there were many leisure and entertainment places in the modern lives of Paris, such as bars, operas,
4、 dancing parties, equestrian parks etc., the cafes had more profound significances comparing to them. As the cradle of modern art, the cafes had more influences on the artists especially the impressionist painters who
5、purchased in the modern style. Bourdieu explained the literature field of the 19 century with the field theory and preinstalled the possibility of the field into the cafes of the 19 century with the special relationship
6、 between the literature field and the art filed at that time. Therefore, this paper takes the field as the entry-point to study Manet's caféworks. It is mentioned that this paper tries to reveal the whole recog
7、nition expressed by the image design in the works instead of focusing on the scattered details of cafes. The reason why the field can reveal the meaning behind the works is that the field has an inseparable relevance wit
8、h the relationship and the society, which echoes Bourdieu’s field theory. This article probes into Manet’s art style and creative concept on the basis of the field theory of this French scholar. Thus this paper tries to
9、 reveal the transition of Manet’s creation purpose behind the modernity and how the field is embodied in his works to realize his pursuing effect through the analysis on Manet’s works about cafes. Key words: Edouard M
