2、c for more than 40 years and has gained great achievements in educating and training students, studying and researching musical theories and enhancing his instrumental sciences. He has students everywhere. On his road of

3、 Guqin art learning and studying, Ding Chengyun devoted all into his career and promoted remarkably the Chinese art of Guqin, thus made great contributions to the contemporary development of Guqin science. His achievemen

4、ts are mainly on: 1. Studies on Qing Shang musical tones via the instrument. 2. Restored the art of Guse and reproduced the harmonious performance of qin and se. therefore, Ding was called the ‘First person’ who had rest

5、ored the qin-se ensemble. 3. excavated and collated a large number of old tunes and worked out a series of creative musical products. This paper takes Ding’s Achievements in Guqin theories as the key target, makes a bri

6、ef summary to his contributions in both teaching and researching, with the purpose of objectively and precisely inducing and evaluating the achievements Ding has made. There are 4 parts included in the paper. Part I elab

7、orates in detail Ding’s experiences of Guqin learning, practicing and studying through 3 different stages. Part II summarizes Ding’s contributions in Guqin study field and his influences. Part III analyzes the characteri

8、stics of the 5 tones (Qing, Ping, Se, Chu, Ce) in Guqin theory, and Part IV summing up Ding’s traditional scholastic spirit in carrying down China’s ancient musical instrument performance and theory. KEY WORDS: Ding Chen
