2、n on Mental Service for Older Empty Nester Abstract By using questionnaires and interview this thesis explores mental health status of older empty nester; compares personality, social support, coping style and mental hea

3、lth between older empty nesters with general older adults, and between positive older empty nesters with negative older empty nesters; analyzes the correlation of these variables in older empty nesters. Based on the corr

4、elation the study utilizes regression of these variables to explore the prediction of the independent variables to mental health. According to above conclusion and related theories, this study raises a theoretical model

5、and examines the relations of these independents and mental health by path analysis. The study discusses the effect of mental service for older empty nesters. It draws conclusions as following: 1) Mental health of older

6、empty nester is significantly lower than the norm of older adults in Beijing. There is significant vocation difference, physical difference, and no significant age difference, sex difference and educational level differe

7、nce in mental health of older empty nester. 2) Older empty nesters are significantly lower than general older adults in mental health and social support, while significantly higher in neuroticism; negative older empty ne

8、sters are significantly lower than positive older empty nesters in mental health, extraversion and positive coping, but significantly higher in neuroticism. 3) Significant positive correlation is found between subject su

9、pport, support utilization, extraversion, positive coping and mental health of older empty nesters, and there is a significant negative correlation between neuroticism and mental health. 4) The theoretical model of older

10、 empty nester’s mental health indicates: extraversion, neuroticism, subject social support, support utilization and positive coping can directly predict mental health of older empty nester; subject support, support utili

11、zation and positive coping are mediation variables to mental health, furthermore, extraversion and neuroticism can indirectly predict mental health of older adults in empty nest family through these mediation variables.
