2、 has entered the 20th century. Driven by material interests, human beings have been exploring natural resources vastly, killing wild animals and destroying the ecological environment. These ultimately have led to a gl
3、obal ecological crisis. The crisis has quickly spread to all aspects of social life, including literature. A growing number of writers have begun to pay attention to ecological problems. They use their writings to refl
4、ect the severe ecological problems, to express their ecological thoughts, and also to alert readers. It is under this background that the ecological literature comes to the literary stage. Canada's unique geograph
5、ical features make it forged a bond with animals and the creation of the animal story is also a special form of the national culture of Canada. Canada's animal literature contains rich ecological thinking, includin
6、g the equal treatment of wild animals, the love of nature as well as the harmonious relationship among human beings, animals and nature. These valuable ecological thinking have offered an important revelation for the sol
7、ution of the ecological crisis. Ernest Thompson Seton, Charles George Douglas Roberts and Farley Mowat are the three most representative writers of Canadian animal literature. They have created a lot of classic animal st
8、ories which have helped Canada to win an international reputation and these also provide us with excellent templates for the interpretation of the ecological thinking reflected in Canadian animal literature. This thesis
9、will analyze the ecological ideas reflected in Canadian literature from six chapters. The first chapter focuses on the origin and development of the ecological literature as well as the brief introduction of Canadian ani
10、mal literature to provide the entire article with a theoretical base. The second, third and fourth chapters will analyze the ecological ideas reflected in Seton's Wild Animals I Have Known, Roberts's The Kindred
11、 of the Wild as well as two of Mowat’s ecological Quadrilogy --- Never Cry Wolf and A Whale for the Killing so as to reveal the ecological ideas in Canadian animal literature. In chapter five, I will compare the ecologi
12、cal thinking of Seton, Roberts and Mowat and reveal the relationship of inheritance and development among their writings. The last chapter serves as a conclusion. I will sum up the ecological thinking contained in Cana
