7、hod is popular with the teachers and students in China, it still has a long way to go. </p><p> This paper first introduces the origin , the definition and the function of Happy Teaching Method, and then it
8、 puts emphasis on the application of Happy Teaching Method in the middle school English teaching based on practical teaching experiences, and some suggestions have been put forward in order to improve middle school Engli

10、于英語教學(xué)方法單一,愉快教學(xué)法這種新的教學(xué)方法于是被廣泛傳播。它的采用,是對傳統(tǒng)的教學(xué)方式的挑戰(zhàn)。在中國,即使許多老師對愉快教學(xué)法已有所耳聞,但要對它熟練掌握并運(yùn)用,則遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠。</p><p> 本文首先介紹了愉快教學(xué)法的起源,定義及其功能,然后基于自己教學(xué)實(shí)踐探究了愉快教學(xué)法在初中英語教學(xué)中的應(yīng)用,并提出了一些可行性建議,以求改善中學(xué)英語教學(xué)法,提高中學(xué)英語教學(xué)效果。</p><p>

12、 of life. Why does it happen? Maybe they are just interested in it, and maybe they just want to cope with the exams to get further education, maybe managing a foreigner language is good for finding a satisfying job, or s
13、omething else? Actually I can’t explain this situation clearly. As we all know, English is widely used in many respects, and it plays an imp</p><p> All of us spend much time and energy on English learning,
14、 but what’s the result? Maybe most people have to say: “our English is still very poor.” Why? What’s wrong with English teaching in China? As for us, this is a serious problem which is worth pondering.</p><p&g
15、t; The test-oriented education forces some students to learn English. They have no interest in learning it. Needless to say, they can’t make great progress, just stay on the original level. I think it is a shortcoming i
16、n current English education. What’s more, our teachers only focus on the test skills, rather than practical abilities. For example, when we are in middle school, our English teachers neglect our spoken English so that we
17、 can’t communicate with others fluently. They just teach us how </p><p> It is known that English is an important subject for students, so the parents send their children to take part in extra training on w
18、eekend. I can’t imagine that the little children are forced to learn English rather than enjoy their childhood. From primary school to university, you must take a lot of English exams. Sometimes I’m wondering whether the
19、 education system is reasonable or not. </p><p> Maybe improving English teaching in China make no sense, but it is important to change our education system. If we are willing to learn to English
20、, I’m sure our English is better than now.</p><p> How can we make progress? I think we still have a long way to go.</p><p> Education is a fruit of society, while its starting point is the ne
21、ed of the community. The basic education has been long concentrated on entrance exam and intended to train outstanding students. The result of exam and the rate of entering high school is the only standards to assess sch
22、ools and appraise teachers. As a result, schools do without following the educational rule, teachers teach in a hard-and-fast way, students lose their initiative, enthusiasm and creativity to learn. As the impleme</p&
23、gt;<p> The Primary School affiliated to Shanghai Normal University was the first to put forward and implement the Happy Teaching Method in 1987. They paid attention to the study of students instead of concentrat
24、ing on the teaching of teachers. The school took a reform of “more illuminations, more intuitions and more practices” and encouraging students to question and debate. They established a class structure that focused on th
25、e practical ability of students which included question, reading, laboratory</p><p> Being aware of the importance of education, a large number of scholars have devoted their time and energy to the course o
26、f the education. However, as the saying goes: “There is no royal road to learning.” So is education. Education is not a course that can be easily achieved. It is always full of challenges. Nowadays, the United States is
27、the only super power in the world. Without doubt, English is considered as the international language to exchange information. As a developing country, Chinese</p><p> As for English learning, it is a heada
28、che both for teachers and students in China. On the teachers’ part, they are exploring the most suitable way to teach students. On the students’ part, some think that pronunciation is very difficult; while others claim t
29、hat grammar is much more tedious. Different people have different views. Frankly speaking, English is more complex in some aspects comparing with Chinese. Just take inverted sentence structure for example, there are a lo
30、t of rules for student</p><p> I have been teaching the students who are in their second year of a middle school. In my teaching, I’ve found there are some problems. I hope I can solve the problems that hav
31、e troubled me for some time in practice so that I can apply my knowledge and theory into practice which I learned from HuNan Agricultural University.</p><p> 1 Status quo of Foreign language education in C
32、hina</p><p> As the most populous country in the world, China also boasts one of the largest populations of English learners and a history of over seven decades of English teaching and learning. Traditional
33、ly, English teaching in China is dominated by a teacher-centered, book-centered, grammar translation method and emphasis on rote memory. As a matter of fact, this approach is still existent in some middle schools . Thes
34、e traditional teaching approaches reflect the typical Chinese classroom for learning En</p><p> Since China began her open door policy, she has greatly increased contact with foreign countries, which has gi
35、ven more importance to the use of foreign language. Nearly all trades and professions need people who have attained foreign language proficiency in varying degrees. Learning a foreign language is also conducive to the de
36、velopment of children’s intelligence, cultural awareness, and outlook on the world. So foreign language is listed as an essential component of compulsory education in ful</p><p> Before any teaching takes p
37、lace, there are a number of things involved in the teaching process. They are the aims of the teaching, the syllabus to be followed, the materials to be used, the topics to be covered and the exercises, and the methods o
38、f assessment and testing. All of these reflect a general approach to the teaching of languages. As we can see, it is very apparent the language teaching involves different linguistic theories, the approach and methodolog
39、y likewise adopted are influenced</p><p> Traditional Chinese education and its effect on middle school English teaching</p><p> As is widely known, China is a country whose civilization goes
40、back to thousands of years. In the course of China’s development, one of its greatest thinkers, Confucius, laid the philosophical foundation for education in China. Confucian teachings about language structure and memori
41、zation of textual materials affected the way the Chinese teach and learn, helped set the educational pattern in China. The most obvious features which summarizing from other’s papers are as follows:</p><p>
42、 A). Concentration on intensive reading as a basis for language study.</p><p> B). Use of memorization and rote learning as a basic acquisition technique.</p><p> C). Meticulous emphasis on l
43、inguistic details and a corresponding lack of attention to communicative skills.</p><p> D). Use of translation as both a teaching and a learning strategy.</p><p> E). Teacher’s authority and
44、students’ passive role.</p><p> To sum up, English teaching in China has focused on the study of grammar and sentence structures, following traditional Chinese scholarly practice. In the classroom, it is us
45、ual for students to keep silent throughout most of the course. Therefore, there is little, if any, classroom interaction among students in Chinese EFL teaching.</p><p> 2 Happy Teaching Method </p>
46、<p> 2.1 The origin and definition of Happy Teaching Method </p><p> As far as the origin of the Happy Teaching Method is concerned, it can be divided into two parts both in China and in western coun
47、tries. In China, the origin of Happy Teaching Method can be dated back to the Spring and Autumn Period. Great educator Confucius said like this “學(xué)而時習(xí)之,不亦樂乎?” “知之者不如好之者,好之者不如樂之者” in Chinese. [1] [2] It suggests that l
48、earning itself is full of pleasure and students are able to obtain satisfaction in emotion. At that time, Confucius has realized that the interest of </p><p> 2.2 The function of Happy Teaching Method</p
49、><p> English situation teaching of middle school, according to psychological characteristic of students, through opening various informative situation, offer as many as possible chances to carry on the exerci
50、ses in English to students, such as conversation, the song, the game, tongue twister, etc. Teachers get support from audio-visual aids, and stimulus students’ interest to use language with the help of creating a happy at
51、mosphere.</p><p> The former Soviet Union educationist and psychologist Л·В·Ванков says: “Once teaching method touch mood and will field of students, touch spirit of students it can give play to t
52、heir highly effective function on need.” [8] </p><p> These theories have fully reflected that characteristics of children are lovely, active. Stress on the practicality of the language, it makes students a
53、ble to study in order to practice, helps to consolidate the memory of the language at the same time. The traditional English teaching method, “spoon-feed ” and “translates from English to Chinese”, not merely make the at
54、mosphere of the classroom oppressive; but also take students accept the knowledge passively, and it doesn’t accord with the pupi</p><p> To quote Herbert Spencer: “Education has for its object the formation
55、 of character.” [9] Happy Teaching does for its object the formation of character. How to demonstrate that Happy Teaching plays an important role in education? Happy Teaching Method will cultivate students’ ability
56、to analyze and solve the problems independently. In the past, the students rely on teachers much. Teachers tell the answers to the students directly. On the contrary, now the teachers only give certain clues to </p>
57、;<p> Happy Teaching Method will help develop the ability of the students to work things out for themselves. In life, human beings are likely to encounter many difficulties. Thus the students have to learn to fac
58、e the setbacks bravely. In class, the teachers will set a lot of scenes for the students. How to get on well with the classmates? How to communicate with others? The students will live by themselves.</p><p>
59、; Happy Teaching Method will foster the students’ ability to study on their own. The pleasure of learning is not confined to learning from textbooks, which are often too tedious. Among the pleasure of learning, we shoul
60、d conclude travel-with an open mind, an alert eye and a visit to understand people, other places, rather than looking in them for a mirror image of oneself. [10] </p><p> 3 The preparation of adopting Hap
61、py Teaching Method</p><p> 3.1 Getting on well with students </p><p> Teaching and studying is a pair of contradiction. How to get on well between students and teachers is very important. The
62、teenager’s mental characteristics tell us that students of this age like being close to teachers. If they have a good feeling with a certain teacher, then they will be very interested in this teacher’s lesson and will sp
63、end lots of time and energy studying his subject. Of course, as a result, they will get good marks. Maybe this kind of phenomenon is what people often says “L</p><p> In order to get on well with students,
64、I often stay at school instead of going home, taking part in all kinds of sports with them. For example, play basketball, play tennis, play games and so on. When we are having a rest, we talk about all kinds of funny thi
65、ngs in our life, studying, interested things, fantastic experiences even emotions. We know each other and become good friends from these talks. Then I get a easy job to have English class for them. Moreover, they learn E
66、nglish breezily.</p><p> 3.2 Getting well ready for teaching</p><p> If a teacher wants to give a successful English class, he must get well ready for teaching firstly. [11] How to get well re
67、ady for teaching? At first, teachers must look through the textbook as much as possible and understand it. Then we can find out the mainly and important knowledge and teach it in an order.Then, what we need to do is
68、 to think over how to give out this lesson, of course, we must still consider students’ situation. For example, how many points have them predominated? What </p><p> As we all known, preparative for lessons
69、 is very important to teachers. We should list topics, scene of text, language and the process in our teaching plan. It is an impactful guarantee for our teaching.</p><p> 3.3 Creating a relaxing and pleasi
70、ng study environment </p><p> As for traditional teaching mode and methods, teachers always instill the knowledge to students, they have to accept lores negatively and passively. They don’t feel relaxed an
71、d pleased, but tired and repellent. As the result, they lose their fancy in English. How to change the environment? How to attract students? To attain the aim, teachers should fill with passions and get into the cla
72、ss whole-heartedly. They should have standard and fluent spoken English, normal and beautiful writing, l</p><p> 3.4 Flexible and diversified teaching methods in class </p><p> A simple teachi
73、ng method is dry and dull. Though it is a good method, if it was used frequently, it will lose expectant effect. For arousing, holding and consolidating the interest, teachers must give teaching materials abundantly, des
74、ign different ways to teach according to the contents. For example: if there is a new word “dentist”, you can bring a game “Magic fingers –how many fingers, how many times.” [12] to help them to remember it. When the tea

79、; From September 15th to November 14th in 2008 I have the great honor to teach English in Xi Lin Middle School in Yue Yang. I tried out three activities in three weeks. And these activities are reported as follows.</
80、p><p> 4.1.1 Teaching activity in the first week</p><p> The teaching materials are all from Middle School English Textbook (Go For It), Book 8B. </p><p> The first-week activities
81、are designed as follows.</p><p> Text: Unit 1. “Will people have robots?” </p><p> Its theme is “the future world”.</p><p> Purpose: to open the exhibition contest, transfer stud
82、y interest</p><p> Instructions: Students designed a picture about the future world. They explained their pictures in English in the group, then acted it out in the class. Procedure: At first, I came i
83、nto the classroom with smiling, and greeted each other. Then, after providing an environment about the future, ask students to imagine the future life and design the future world on the paper. At that time, when they hea

91、own that middle school students are inclined to be out of mind in class if they are taught in an ossified way. As to the question, how to draw the students’ attention? Teachers in junior students are trying to put Happy
92、Teaching Method into practice. Since Happy Teaching Method is different from traditional teaching, there are many requirements for both teachers and students. On one hand, teachers must improve themselves to qualify them
