7、 is a compulsory basic subjects in Chinese Middle schools. In order to completely integrate into the society, no matter wheather our country or schools are putting much attention to the English teaching and learning . Al
8、though our English teaching has gotten much progress , we still face many difficulties ,espe</p><p> In this paper, I will illusrate the present situation of English learning and analysis the reasons of the
9、 existing of the students with difficulties in learning English in rural middle school,by taking Xuhan Xian Cheng Xi Middle School as an example. Then offer some methods of changing the present situation so teachers can
10、culture good learning motivation ;study habits and learning methods that students can strengthen their confidence and improve their grades. </p><p> Key words: students with difficulties ; English learning;

35、fficulties in Learning English in Rural Middle School </p><p> I. Introduction</p><p> With the informatization of our social life and the globalization of our economic activities, English is
36、becoming an important tool for contacting with the outside world. The datum show that more than 70 precent scientists read English , 85 precent E-mail are written in English and that 90 precent electro-searching systems
37、 store imformation in English.Now English is a compulsory basic subjects in middle school in China and it plays a more and more important role in our daily life. </p><p> For several decades struggling , ou
38、r English teaching has developed and made some progress in all aspects including teaching methods ,teaching level ,teaching device and so on. But English teaching remains a lot of problems, such as behindhand equipment a
39、nd out-of-date teaching methods,especially in rural middle school.Though English teaching is taken seriously and from primary school, we begin to learn English, there are still a large amount of students with difficultie
40、s in learning English .</p><p> For all kinds of reasons , when students move on to grade two and three , the polarizing phenomenon gets worse and worse . The number of the students with difficulties in lea
41、rning English takes up over 40 percent or even worse . If this situation can't be changed , it will affect their later English learning and their development . This problem has been perplexing the teachers in rural m
42、iddle school .So how to chang this kind of students is a hot point .Yet Some teachers and scholars have made </p><p> II. The universality of the existence of students with diffilcuties in learning English
43、</p><p> With the development of society , English is playing an important role in our life .People pay much attention to students' English learning. But for the pressure of entering a higher school, a
44、part of teacher and parents only care about the scores and ignore the development of the emotion and ability. Meanwhile, the students have bad study habits , lower learning interests and insuitable learning methods . The
45、se kinds of reasons result in parts of students having diffilculties in learning Englis</p><p> A. Definition of students with learning difficulties</p><p> Students with learning diffilcuties
46、 refer to this group of students who do poorly in their study caused by teachers , family or themself. It is usually divided into two kinds-intellectual students with learning difficulties and unintelligent students with
47、 learning diffilculties.The former one refers to the students were born to unintelligence or are unintelligent for some disease . On the contrary ,the later one refers to the students can't reach to the besic require
48、ments setted by teaching prog</p><p> B. The present situation of students with difficulties in learning English in rural middle school</p><p> In rural area, the family have little income and
49、 both parents work outside when they lack of farm work or even the whole year working outside. And then their children become left-behind children. They lack of caring and guidence in study,expecially some parents are in
50、fluenced by useless reading so that they pay not enough attention on students' English learning . Though a part of students make a point of English learning , thay don't have correct ways and most students don
51、9;t learn English in pri</p><p> C. The characteristics of students with difficulties in learning English in rural middle school</p><p> Students with English learning difficulties in learning
52、 habits and learning quality mainly has following obvious characteristics2. </p><p> Lack of interest and initiative in learning English</p><p> Research shows that, the various factors that i
53、nfluence learning ratio is: learning habits accounted for 33%, accounting for 26% of learning interest, intelligence factors accounted for 15%, family influence accounted for 5%, other factors accounted for 21%.Visiblely
54、, next to learning habits , interest is the important factor influencing learning effects. Because of the limitted teachters and equipment , they don't have English classes and any interest . After a considerable per
55、iod , they couldn</p><p> No clear learning objectives and lack of stability in will and character</p><p> As we all know , Rome was not built in one day .A considerable part of the students
56、39; learning objectives are not clear and it is difficult to develop a good long-term effective study habits. And they are on the stage of character formation and lack of correct cognition on themselves .If they can'
57、t achive their desired goal, they would easily lose their confidence and give up.</p><p> No proper study habits and low learing efficiency</p><p> We can know that students with having good l
58、earning effect all have their own effective way of learning. Most students don't want to think and summarize, and they only blindly repeat .Although some people have studied very hard, but most are twice work and ha
59、lf gain.</p><p> Active and curiosity with little attention</p><p> The main factor causing the classroom efficiency low is that the attention is not centralized. Especially for students with
60、learning difficulties, they are more easily distracted .The classes are still the main channels for knowledge acquisition and they can't concentrate on the classes is bound to lead to poor academic performance .<
61、/p><p> Psychological inferiority</p><p> English is a kind of language so speaking is very important . I find that students with good grades and good character can easily take part in activies i
62、n class . The feeling of being recognized makes them more will to learn . But for the poor students , they are free from the outside of the classroom . Some introvert are self-contemptuous . They are afraid of making mis
63、takes and being laughed at because of their unstandard pronuncation . Then they become scanty of words .Another part of student</p><p> Poor endurance and easy to go to extremes</p><p> The mi
64、ddle school students are after 90 with superior material conditions of life and lack of exercise . This reduces their abilities to face the frustration. They are easily impulsive and they are easy to get out of control .
65、High demands on others but low request on own . When they have a good mood ,they are energetic and while when they have a bad mood ,they don't think right or wrong . If they like the teacher ,they like the course , o

67、 learning English exists objectively and the number of this kind of students isn't a small part .They are not only exsit in our country but all over the world . And we know that most slow learners are not born but ar
68、e formed in their living envirnment .So both at home and abroad , scholars have being studyed though the domestic research is a little bit later and lack of unified diagnostic standard.They have put forward many reasons

70、and external factors , the internal factors play a decisive role. So does the slow learners . We should pay more attention to their own reasons . According to the formers' reaserch and my own expirence , it is easy t
71、o find the following reasons from themselves4. </p><p> 1. The students' attitude to learning</p><p> Nothing is difficult if you put your heart into it . It shows that attitude is quite i
72、mportant for our doing thing and learning is no exception. Will is people's consciousness expression about a certain object purposeully and regularly . The purpose of will : people's will always has a clear objec
73、tive activity . The so-called purpose is clearly aware of the main action process and result .The regulation of will: the mind of man can adjust and control his internal and external activities. During </p><p&
74、gt; People are not heartless . There must have some emotional things among students learning activities , which is called the study emotion.Emotion is the corresponding behavioral responses according to people's att
75、itudes about the objective things . </p><p> Emotion plays an important role to study in two aspects: emotions can be amplified , improve and enhance motivation and internal signals ,thus turing into learni
76、ng motivation. Students who have positive emotions in study , will feel happy when learning and won't treat study as a burden . He needs no others to urge because he develops all kinds of good study habits easily . A

78、rt of students have much interest in learning English. They have positive motivation to study and can learn autonomously.But their learning level is low and they can not reach the state regulations of teaching outline re
79、quirments of the studnets in the similar group . This kind of students is lack of learning ability and good study habits . Learning English can't be departed from speaking and they should bodly speaking and are not a
80、fraid of making mistake . Students with English learni</p><p> When I was in Xuhan , more than one students had asked me the way to study English . At that time , I asked them how did they study English . T
81、hey said that in class , lisent to the teacher and make some notes and after class finish the homework that the teacher asked . If the teacher would do some dictation, they would begin to try to remember . Before class t

84、d here I will take about the following aspects5.</p><p> 1. The teaching device of the school</p><p> Though our government have given a lot of investment in education, teaching facilities in
85、rural schools are simple and crude . Some schools didn't completely buy the teacher's book, exercise books, maps, sketch, listening training materials, magnetic tape and supplementary teaching materials .Even the
86、 most ordinary AIDS-the recorder, they can't ensure that every teacher has one . Let alone buying recorders, projectors, projectors and other equipments . Of course , multimedia teaching equipment a</p><p&
87、gt; 2. The faculty of the school</p><p> In rural middle schools , the shortage of English teacher is serious and the quality of teachers is low . The vast majority of English teachers in China are the nat
88、ive and their spoken English is not authentic and not standard. On the one hand, many rural English teachers' knowledge structure is single and they are affected by traditional teaching concepts seriously . Their com

93、 status, English is more and more important but the rural students have a complex and contradictory mood toward English learning. First of all, under the commercial tide, rural students have more choices to the future em

96、 school . Many rural middle school students leave off their study at home or wait for employment . Even several studnets can't write the 26 letters completely when they graduate from middle school . In fact , their f
97、ailure on study is the failure of education in rural middle school . So how to help change the slow learners is an arduous mission6. </p><p> A. Increasing the government investment to school education&l
98、t;/p><p> The government should increase the investment in Education, expecially to the rural middle school. At least , every English teacher should have a good set of hearing device and the teaching material
99、should be up-to-date . For the Chengxi Middle school in Xuanhan , the teacher should have computer so that they can get recent impormate for their teaching . Then the multi-media classroom should be improved so that teac
