3、neffectlostmostoftheirmanufacturingstrengthbargainingpowertothemthesupplierscurrentlyaccountf28%ofthetotalautomotiveindustryprofitsasopposedtoonly24%ftheOEMs.TheoutsourcingtrendhasthusresultedinOEMsrelinquishingtheirhist
4、icalstrategicroletopositionthemselvesmelikeiginalbrmanufacturers(OBMs).Thesetrendshavecontributedtoanacceleratedincreaseofthesupplyuncertaintyinadditiontothealreadyrecognizeddemuncertainty.Varioussupplyuncertaintyreducti
5、onstrategieshavebeendesignedindertostabilizetheplanningprocessamongwhichthemostsignificantisthedesigncollabationwhichincludesthesharingofNPIplansevenajointNPIplansdesign.Asthecomponentssubsystemsarebeingoutsourcedthesupp
6、liersareleveragingtheinnovationtechnologicalcostsacrossOEMsindustrySCstructurehasalsoevolvedintoanextremelycomplexintricatewkinwhichallsupplierstendtohaveshttermrelationswithmultipleOEMs.Theresult:anydifferenceinqualityp
7、erfmancesafetyfuelefficiencyamenitieshasbeenreducedsignificantly.TheOEMsinmanywayshavehisticallybeentreatingSCdesignasa‘‘tactical’’issueseparatefromconcurrentlydesigningtheproductmanufacturingprocess:aftertheconceptdesig
8、nphasethePurchasingDepartmentwouldstartsupplier’sbusinesstechnologyalignment.WhenthedevelopmentoftheSCbecomesintegraltotheNPIprocessthenthesuppliers’responsibilitiesatdifferentstagesofproductprocessdesignscouldbeclearlya
9、cknowledgeddependingonthestrategicimptancetheclockspeedofdifferentcomponentssubsystems.InfactinouropinionthedesignoftheSClinksthatprecedethefinalassemblyshouldbeconsideredastherationaldifferentiatingacteristicoftheOEMsfr
10、omanoperationalpointofview(agilityinnovationqualityreliability).Stylingandistributionchanneldesignmanagement(thepostOEMassemblyoperations)aretheemotionaldifferentiatingacteristicsfromabrperspective.Classifyingcomponentsb

12、tivenessareacceleratingastheycadedownthesupplychain.IndertocapitalizeonthisdownstreamaccelerationtheOEMshavetomodularizetheirproducts’architecture.Asmentionedtherearedifferentclockspeedsfdifferentautosubsystemscomponents
