7、ifficultyofvariousRCsentencestodigoutwhateffectstheRCtypematrixpositionhaveonthecomprehensionproductionofarelativeclause.What’smetheresultsofthepresentresearchareexaminedagainsttheprevioushypothesessothatadeepthoughunder

8、stingofthecomprehensionproductionoftheEnglishrelativeclausesisobtained.Themainfindingsare:FirstlyinspiteofthecomparativelysyntacticcomplexityofGENOPREPoverSUDOthefmertwoRCtypesareshowntobeeasiertoprocessthanthelattertwor

9、espectivelyinbothofthetwotests.ThisindicatesthattheacquisitiondifficultiesofdifferentRCtypesarenotcompletelydeterminedbytheirsyntacticcomplexities.Theperceptualsaliencyoftherelativepronoun“whose”thelearnerslinguisticexpe

10、rienceareineffectplayimptantroles.SecondlyinthecomprehensiontasktheprocessingdifficultiesofrelativesentencesaredeterminedbytheembeddednessbutnotbythedifferencesofRCtypes.Thisisarguedtobeduetothefactthatsentencecomprehens
