4、 pragmatics. Therefore, how to avoid pragmatic failureand communicate successfully has become an important objective of foreign languageteaching.From the perspective of intercultural communication, the thesis studiesprag

5、matic failure made by Uygur (Min Kao Min) and Han English major universitystudents with the theoretical framework of “pragmatic failure’’ proposed by JennyThomas(1983). The author adopts a combination of quantitative met

6、hod andqualitative method. The data are collected through questionnaire, and processed bySPSS. And the qualitative analysis is carried out under the theoretical frameworkof pragmatics and culture. The aim is to know how

7、Uygur and Han university studentsuse their acquired knowledge, and then explore their differences of pragmatic failurein intercultural communication. Through the comparative analysis, the author furtherdigs out the cultu

8、ral, psychological and cognitive reasons behind the differences inpragmatic failure made by Uygur and Han university students.The research findings show that the pragmatic competence of Uygur and Hanuniversity students n

9、eeds to be improved, and the pragmatic failure ratio of Hanuniversity students is significantly higher than that of Uygur university students. Thethesis thinks the different pragmatic competence of Uygur and Han universi
